How do I get flexible?! I get this question SO often, and many people think that being flexible is just not possible for them BUT, the truth is, anyone can get flexible, no matter what stage you might be at now. Flexibility is all about exposing your body to extended range of movement, consistently…and that’s the key word. Consistency. Spending time on stretching or yoga everyday will improve your flexibility tremendously. Even just 15min daily will help you more than just 1 or 2 long stretching sessions a week. One of the best ways I like to mix my stretching/yoga into my day is to do it first thing in the morning, or just before bed at night. Morning stretching helps your body release feel good hormones and helps you start a positive flow of energy for your day ? Night time stretching releases tension and stress that you might have built up over the day and prepares your body for rest and healing. I also stretch in front of the tv at night if I haven’t had the chance to fit it in during the day! ?) Looking after your mobility is also the number one way to avoid chronic pain (lower back pain anyone?!?) and injury (like rotator cuff issues & knee problems) ?? After what felt like a lifetime on the course between Friday and Saturday, I didn’t think I could possibly take one more step during the @spartan Beast. I was trying desperately to complete my 30 burpees for a failed obstacle and had no steam left in me. I looked up into the heavens and felt a strange sensation come over me. I could almost hear my Mom whisper, “You got this, Mandy. Come on, let’s go…” I had an image in my head of her from a chemo in January. My mom had just received a blood transfusion after almost dying from a bronchitis and flu combo. But, against all odds, she not only bounced back but showed up to chemo that week with freshly baked goods, smiles and hugs for everyone (swipe right to see a picture from that day). I didn’t feel sad thinking of this moment on Saturday. I felt the opposite of sad- I felt a tidal wave of strength and happiness overtake me, as I thought of her smile that day in chemo. Seeing this picture of me looking up to the sky brought me to tears because somehow it was all captured. Everything I carried in my heart in that moment is here. I hope you know that you’re strong enough to face whatever obstacle lies in your path. The storm can’t last forever. And, those who loved us will never truly be gone when they live on in our hearts. My 30 completed burpees prove that ??
